While Bratislava hasn’t undergone the kind of turmoil that many of its neighbors to the south have in recent decades, the city is still not yet a tourist magnet. Being in the shadow of Vienna could help, however, especially for those looking for something cheaper and different.

Hotels and hostels in Bratislava are very good value by European standards, yet not as cheap as the larger cities to the south. The Bratislava Old Town is very popular and worth spending a bit more for central accommodation.
Hotels in Bratislava typically have high season prices from May through September, while the low season runs November through March (except for Christmas) and the remaining months are shoulder season. Hostel prices don’t change much any time of the year, but deals at fancy hotels are possible during off season.

Bratislava has warm summers and mild springs and autumns with very little rainfall at any time of year, relatively speaking. Winters do get cold but it’s rare that the city spends more than a few days below freezing at any stretch.
