Located a short ferry ride from the mainland town of Playa del Carmen, the island of Cozumel is a popular resort destination that is focused on diving and other water sports. It has its own small airport with direct flights from some cities, but most people fly into the much larger and nearby Cancun Airport, which has lower fares and far more direct connections.

As with the rest of the general area, prices for hotels and restaurants have a wide range, with 4-star luxury places starting at around US$250 per night in the low season, and simple guesthouses starting around $40. As long as you can get here, you should be able to enjoy yourself on any budget. Just as you’d expect, there are plenty of things to do in Cozumel in addition to sitting on the beach and shopping.
Hotel prices vary throughout the year depending on holidays, festivals and weather. Peak season, when prices are at their highest, is during the winter months. During this time of year, many seasonal residents travel down from the north in order to escape the cold.

Most visitors to Cozumel tend to stay at the larger beach hotels, and food and drinks at those places can be a bit pricey. You can get better deals in the main town area around the ferry landing, although it may not be worth the trouble if you prefer to stay on the beach.

Due to its tropical location, every month of the year experiences warm temperatures coupled with mostly sunny days. The hottest month however, is August in which you’ll experience temperatures into the 90s during the day and the 80s at night. This heat, and the rest throughout the year is calmed due to near constant ocean breezes.
Rainy season occupies late summer and/or early fall. If traveling during this time of year, it’s best to prepare for both heavy rains and the possibility of a tropical storm or hurricane.
